Bremen purchased from the 'Kingdom of Hanover' (1827)
I am comparing and contrasting images of cities of Glasgow, Scotland (late 19th c.), with that of Bermen, Germany today as I consider where my ancestors lived, the time lines of wars and what their greatest need was to make them immigrate to North America.
Sometimes I am angry about their leaving their homelands, then moving to a world that lacked any type of development they were used to. What was so upsetting in their lives or why would they have seen this as an opportunity to move to North America and make a home here.
Often, I feel more than special learning how many of my ancestors literally were of the majority of first settlers, original colonist, and most of them made it through becoming some of the greatest of historical figures, others were very quiet and that is where I find most of my life. It was how they left me with parents who helped me to be innocent, naive and lost to adventures that were no match for what they had done.
Now I see that. I feel this, and I love what I know about them and their homelands, whether it is Germany, Scotland, France, Wales, even Italy. I am not willing to be speechless, yet have no intention of shouting about this, and I do want it all.
