Lady Charlotte Murray, 'Duchess of Atholl', '8th Baroness Strange' inherited sovereignty of Isle of Mann.


Lady Charlotte Murray, was the daughter of James Murray, '2nd Duke of Atholl', 'Marquess of Tullibardine', keeper of the 'Great Seal of Scotland', 'Keeper of the Privy Seal of Scotland', and Jane Frederick.


James Murray was the son of John Murray, '1st Duke of Atholl', '1st Earl of Tullibardine', 'Lord High Commissioner to the Parliament of Scotland', Knight of the Thistle who was married to Katherine Hamilton daughter of William Douglas Hamilton, '3rd Duke of Hamilton' and Anne Hamilton, '3rd Duchess of Hamilton'


Charlotte in 1765, sold the sovereignty of the 'Isle of Mann' to Britain's crown for 70,000 pounds, with an annuity of 2000 pounds annually.


The ruler of the British Crown in 1765 was King George III of the United Kingdom (1765 - 1837), he was succeeded by his brother, King William IV.
